The pessebre

The pessebre is not a decorative object but an annual construction project: a whole landscape of hills, streams and working fields built around the stable, refreshed every December.

Plaça Sant Jaume

The municipal nativity scene, built each year to a different design and free to visit at any hour. Scale is the point, with moving water and near life-sized figures.

Living nativity scenes

Towns within reach of the city stage pessebres vivents with real residents, livestock and torchlight around Christmas and Epiphany. Look up the programmes for Corbera de Llobregat and Breda.

Building your own

Santa Llúcia sells every component, from cork mountains to the paper strips that pass for rivers. Vendors will happily explain what a finished scene is supposed to include.
